Nokes: Commonwealth of VA boasts balance among 5 NCAA teams

This year's NCAA Tournament will mean a little bit more in the state of Virginia. That's because a total of five teams will be participating in this year's big dance.

UVA (1 seed), Virginia Tech (4 seed), VCU (8 seed), Liberty (12 seed) and Old Dominion (14 seed) will all have a chance to make history. Each of them has a different story and different expectations. Not to mention, there's a lot of interesting scenarios that could possibly play out over the next couple of weekends.

My first takeaway is the fact that Virginia Tech, VCU and Liberty are all housed in the East Region, while UVA and ODU are over in the South Region. Some significant upsets would need to take place for any of these teams to actually meet in an NCAA tournament game. However, we all know upsets are part of the fun that is March Madness and anything can happen.

Also, consider the fact that both Radford (Big South Conference) and Norfolk St. (MEAC) both lost in their conference championships. Had the Highlanders and Spartans prevailed in just one more conference tournament game, VA would have seen an incredible seven teams in this year's tournament.

Still, five teams from the state is impressive and something everyone should be excited for. That being said, here are some more stats on each of the five tournament teams from Virginia:
