McElroy: Sean Taylor, #21, and Landon Collins

McElroy: Sean Taylor, #21, and Landon Collins

Landon Collins will be introduced today in a 2pm press conference.

Yesterday, it was reported that Collins received a gift from Washington Redskins owner Dan Snyder: an autographed Sean Taylor jersey.

Collins has openly spoke for years about how big of a fan he was of Taylor, who was killed while Landon was in high school

But Collins, like many of us, had our favorites growing up.

Colleague Rick Snider wrote a very interesting piece about whether or not #21 should ever be worn again.  You can read it here.

Surprising enough the number isn’t retired by the Redskins. Actually, there is only one by Washington (Sammy Baugh #33) yet many haven't been issued out of respect for the previous players who wore them. For example: Art Monk's #81.

I’d imagine that Collins will be asked today if he’d consider/want to wear it but something tells me between respect for Taylor and the pressure (personal and from the fan base) of wearing it, he will rather change his number and try to honor Taylor with his play.

#tradition #family #original honored by Mr. Snyder aka Dan...this is unreal -- #ripseantaylor
